The new BSS research building in Basel and the GLC in the centre of Zurich are now ready for occupation. The construction work took longer than planned, but the time has finally come: staff from the BSSE, HEST and ITET departments have begun to move in.

ETH alumnus Frank Floessel is co-founder of the student consultancy ETH Juniors and serial entrepreneur. He took over the position of Head of the ETH Entrepreneurship group on the staff of Vice-President Vanessa Wood on 1 June.

Further delay in moving into the new GLC building

The GLC research and laboratory building in Gloriarank is not expected to open until the second half of 2023. Completion by the general contractor has been further delayed. The latest available information indicates that the D-HEST and D-ITET departments will be able to move in with their 13 professorships starting early 2023. ?
Materials scientist Tanja Zimmermann appointed the first female CEO of Empa
On 1 June 2022, Tanja Zimmermann became the first woman to head Empa, the research institute for materials science and technology. Like her predecessor, Gian-Luca Bona, the materials scientist also holds a dual professorship at ETH and EPFL.

Update on delays concerning the new GLC building

The opening of the development and laboratory building on the Gloriarank (GLC) site has been delayed once again. According to the current planning status, the professorships will be able to start moving in from autumn 2022, and the building will open for the 2023 spring semester. Both teaching and research at ETH are affected significantly by the delay.
ETH Zurich moving into new Gloriarank building later than planned
With its new building on the Gloriarank site (GLC), ETH Zurich is creating a modern development and laboratory building for Health Sciences and Technology at its Zentrum campus. The site will house 13 professorships from the HEST and ITET departments. But with building works delayed, they will have to wait a little longer. ETH expects operations to begin there in 2022.
"We feel a bit lonely"
All ETH Zurich buildings have been closed. Until further notice, they can only be opened using a key or an ETH employee card and the corresponding access code. As the head of the ET building area in the Facility Management Department, Ruedi Streuli talks about the current situation in the D-?ITET buildings in the campus Zentrum.

An info room in the former anatomy building at University Hospital Zurich provides information on developments in Zurich’s central university district. There is also a poster exhibition in ETH’s main building that discusses what will happen to the urban space between the buildings.
New president of scientific staff
AVETH, the association of scientific staff, has a new president: Martin Roszkowski. The doctoral student in neuroscience replaces physics doctoral student Arik Jung.
